Impact of Woodworking Therapy

Woodworking with Warriors Vision

Provides Peace and Relief

Woodworking provides an opportunity for healing, growth, and renewal. There is a satisfying feeling of peace in taking a piece of wood and turning it into something useful, practical, and beautiful.

Woodworking with Warriors Mission

Leads to Empowerment and Renewed Purpose

For many veterans, as their woodworking project takes shape, so does a new outlook on life. Veterans are able to build their skill up to a level of professionalism that can create vocational opportunities.

Woodworking with Warriors Plan

Helps Take Control of PTSD/CPTSD

According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) is a mental health problem that is developed after experiencing or witnessing a life threatening event, such as combat. CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder) is a result of repeated trauma that may have lasted for months or years. Woodworking is a proven form of art therapy that allows veterans who are struggling to cope take control of their symptoms through creative expression.

Why Group Therapy?

Group behavioral treatments are recommended for PTSD so people can experience trauma healing within the safety, cohesion, and empathy provided by other survivors, and so they can regain the ability to form trusting relationships (National Center for PTSD). Group treatment is particularly useful for combat-related PTSD because military training and combat operations are group experiences and traumatic experiences in the military are typically managed in the context of a group.
